The Meaning of 1/24 Second

Kim Ku-lim / Republic of Korea (South Korea) / 1969 / Czech Premiere / 11 min.

synopsis

The first experimental film in the history of Korean cinema refers to a frame rate of twenty-four frames per second. Through an energetic collage of edits, the city symphony radically delimits itself from the drastic urbanisation of Seoul. While towering skyscrapers symbolise progress in the city, a new government of technocrats grows in their midst.

"I do not feel bound by media, and my decisions about media are always spontaneous and accommodating." Kulim Kim

biography

Kulim Kim (1936) is considered the father of Korean experimental film. At the turn of the 1960s and 70s, he founded AG and The Fourth Group, which bring together avant-garde artists and intellectuals.
