Forest Protection as a Path For Everyone / From electrician to the VLK forest conservation association
More than thirty years ago, Juraj Lukáč, an imaginative Slovak forest conservationist, founded the forest conservation association VLK. The association buys up land and then shuts down clearing operations. Their activities have had a beneficial effect on the land around them and the carnivorous animals that are returning to them. Lukáč calls himself "a normal citizen who is angry about what is happening in our forests", not an activist. In addition to his years of experience and inspiring activities in forest conservation, his life story will undoubtedly be worth listening to: how does an electrical engineer become one of the most prominent conservationists? What moments brought him here? And how can any of us effectively influence forest policy from the bottom up?
