Fifth Level
Tomáš Klein / Czech Republic / 2024 / The film already had its Czech Premiere / 45 min.
synopsis
The current system of care allowances is inadequate for people with the most severe disabilities. The highest level, level 4, corresponds to about 5 hours of personal assistance per day. In that time, it is possible to get up in the morning, take care of basic hygiene, get dressed, prepare food, eat and go to bed at night with the help of an assistant. That's all. For one year, Assistance o.p.s. has provided five selected people with physical disabilities with the so-called "fifth" level of support, thus ensuring that they receive the care they really need. How did they survive that year and what was it like getting back to normal life?biography
His student films have been successfully screened at many international festivals. His undergraduate film Retriever, which he made together with Tomáš Merta, was screened at the Cannes IFF in the Cinéfondation section. As a second director, he collaborated on Jan Němec's The Wolf of Královské Vinohrady. He subsequently completed the film at the request of the late director. For Viera Čákanyová's FREM, on which he worked as a cinematographer, he won the Czech Film Critics' Award for Audiovisual Achievement of the Year (the film had its international premiere at the Berlinale Forum and won the Pavel Koutecký Award).more about film
