synopsis

Being somewhere else is the essence of Czech camping. Fleeting glances, the charms of passing women, queues for food, skirmishes between human males, the territoriality of tent stakes and the erotica of swing music personify the subversive summer illusion of a touchingly petty and collective escape into sameness.

biography

Václav Táborský (born 1928), a Czech pioneer of cinéma vérité, made over eighty short films and almost fifty educational programmes. After August 1968, he emigrated to Canada, where he worked as an educator. His work is divided into satirical documentary features and feature films for children, including Escape in the Wind and Miraculous Puzzle.
