Serious games, simulations, adventure games, RPG – we explore the ways different genres highlight serious topics: for instance the life in a totalitarian society, the construction of a sustainable environment, the sources and spreading of false news.
Alfred after Alfred
director:
Alfréd is a worm, a bird, a bacterium, a plant – he is Alfréd. An uninterrupted cycle of constant change. An exchange of energy. Everything changes. The result is always different. The result is always the same. It is still Alfréd. Alfréd is eternal. This inventive game was created by Zakroutil, Miky Petrik, Daniel Mrazik, and Zuzana Darjaninová.
Horse Orbit
director:
This satirical game follows the dialogue of three horses wandering through the baroque landscape of contemporary video game culture. It is an example of an ingenious reflection on gaming media and the social contexts that shape the gaming environment and culture. The game was developed by a team of authors formed by B. Heblík, J. Kolář, O. Polách, A. Součková, and V. Vaněk. It was created at the Game Media Studio of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Brno University of Technology.
Mourning Tide
director:
This aesthetically appealing game combines fishing and psychological horror in an atmospheric first-person gaming world. It explores the theme of guilt in forbidden waters, where each catch reveals fragments of the past. The game was developed by the student team Liquid Squid in collaboration with publisher Black Lantern Collective.
Preserve
director:
Preserve is a puzzle nature-building game that takes players on a journey into a harmonious ecosystem. The objective is to foster and sustain thriving and diverse biomes, where each component coexists in symbiotic harmony. By utilizing strategic thinking and a keen eye for balance, players are granted the power to position a wide array of plants and animals, curating an environment that caters to their preferences and aspirations.
Veď mě dál
director:
An imaginative game by Vojtěch Radovský. The player runs through an endless procedural forest of rain and fog—without a goal, score, or victory. At the beginning, they choose objects, relics of consumerism and romantic escape. The game subverts the endless runner genre and reflects on the futility of escaping capitalist acceleration.
Velvet 89
director:
How did the communist regime in Czechoslovakia fall? This hidden-object game tells the story of ordinary people taking part in the peaceful demonstrations that changed the course of history. Big crowds hide people who want to tell you why they took to the streets. An amazing game by Charles Games.
