Romanian director and screenwriter. Pulu studied fine arts and film in Geneva. He is considered the founder of the Romanian New Wave and one of the most important contemporary European filmmakers. He made the award-winning films The Death of Mr. Lazarescu (2005), Aurora (2010), and Stuff & Dough (2001). His last film Sieranevada, which was nominated for the Academy Award for Foreign Language Film in 2016, is his fourth feature film, and the third in the series Six Tales from the Bucharest Suburbs, inspired by Rohmer’s Six Moral Tales. He is currently working on a fifth feature film, a drama set in the early 20th century.
