synopsis
A multi-layered documentary odyssey exploring the possibilities of seeing and being seen in a society that both oversees and is itself overseen. The film introduces the viewer to America's largest company producing police bodycams and tasers, presents a history of the development of audio-visual recording devices and weapons, and takes a bird's eye view of Baltimore citizens' debates about how to reduce crime through bird's-eye view monitoring. Is the human eye or the camera lens more objective? The film oscillates between investigative journalism and philosophical video essay, revealing the limits of individual freedom in an age of constant surveillance.
„As a filmmaker especially, in my position, it’s my worst fear that something that I make would end up reinforcing the very thing that I’m critiquing.“ (
Theo Anthony)
