Synchromy
Norman McLaren / Canada / 1971 / Czech Premiere / 8 min.
synopsis
The ingenious synchronisation of the musical and visual components of the film creates a synaesthetic experience that, thanks to the gradual unveiling of visual-sound analogies, gives the impression of learning a new language. This classic work of avant-garde cinema was created through McLaren's long experimentation with drawing on an optical audio track.biography
Norman McLaren (1914–1987) was an award-winning Scottish-Canadian experimental animator. He worked with many animation techniques: from scratching and drawing directly onto film stock to stop-motion animation and combining animation with live actors. In 2014, Ji.hlava IDFF presented the world premiere of Patrick Bergeron's film homage to McLaren's Synchromy, Synchromy Study.more about film
