Solastalgia
Eline Kersten / Netherlands / 2020 / World Premiere / 18 min.
synopsis
Nostalgia refers to the feeling one has of a place they left behind. Solastalgia, on the other hand, refers to the homesickness one has when they are still at home. Ecological philosopher Glenn Albrecht calls it the impact of environmental change on the mental health of the people who live through it. With an impressive visual aspect comprised exclusively of drone landscape shots, Kersten’s film explores this relationship in the stories of people affected by the quarry near Maastrich.
