Miss Kim Lilac
Jisoo Chung / Republic of Korea (South Korea) / 2024 / European Premiere / 18 min.
synopsis
A herbarium of lilac varieties opens up with historical and etymological narratives and provides insight into the consequences of colonial history, the objectification of women, and the commodification of natural goods. Miss Kim, the name of a lilac brought to America from Korea and named by an American botanist, is a pejorative archaic term with connotations of a subservient woman in a typical secretarial position. Through the cataloguing of plants and things, the author seeks to create a new, multivalued and free nomenclature.biography
