Henry Francia’s self-portrait captures the inner world of the artist, who spent time in New York in the 1960s to study film. His stay in the USA turns into a spiritual journey, where the young man experiences the feelings of Filipino immigrants in a foreign land, far from home.
biography
Hilarion “Henry” Francia studied economics at Ateneo University in Manila. In the 1960s, he travelled to the United States, where he studied film at New York University. In the 1970s, he returned to the Philippines, where he co-founded the Salaguinto Film Society and helped to create the Los Indios Bravos film movement.
