synopsis
Adventurer of the silver screen Karel Zeman is one of the world’s most successful filmmakers. At the Zlín film studio, he came up with cinematic techniques and special effects that he used to create groundbreaking works of film. Long before the era of digital effects, he took audiences on a trip into prehistory, to the moon, and under the ocean surface. This documentary takes a look at his trip through life. We see his special effects workshop and interview filmmakers from Japan to America, including Terry Gilliam and Tim Burton. We learn why his films are still alive today. With students of animation, we reconstruct three famous scenes from his films. How will they manage, without the help of computers and digital technology?
