Exercises for Two Hands

Exercises for Two Hands

Józef Robakowski / Poland / 1976 / 7 min.

synopsis

Footage shot simultaneously by Robakowski using two cameras attached to his arms play side-by-side on a split-screen. Controlled by his arbitrary arm movements, these two cameras tumble and roll as they capture a park and its surroundings without any regard to the perspective of the human eye.

biography

Józef Robakowski (1939) is a media artist. He is also active as an educator, an author of theoretical studies and manifestos, a curator, and a collector. In the 1970s, he co-founded the Workshop of the Film Form (Warsztat Formy Filmowej) as well as the Exchange Gallery in Lodz, which is still in operation today and has served as Poland’s only archive of experimental video art for quite some time.
