How and where to write about documentary film
While there are relatively many reviewers of fiction in the Czech environment, there are far fewer writers who are dedicated to ongoing reflection on documentary filmmaking. What is the reason for this? Less interest in the media in the reflection of documentaries? Weaker offer in cinema distribution? And isn't the reason for this also due to the fact that, despite all the current hybrid genres and fictions, documentary filmmaking is after all a different discipline, which requires a somewhat different conceptual apparatus, a specific cinematic overview and social sensitivity than fiction? As a reviewer, is it possible to switch between fiction and documentary? This is what Josef Chuchma will ask the female publicists Julia Páté and Kamila Boháčková and the male publicists Kamil Fila and Janis Prášil. The debate will be complemented by selected documentary filmmakers with their views on how their films are or are not written about.
